Qissa Khwani Bazaar, or Storytellers’ Market, is a historical marketplace in Peshawar. Before partition, the Bazaar was among India’s busiest commercial hubs and it attracted scores of travelling merchants who would stop at local teahouses in the Bazaar where they exchanged stories about their experiences. This practice transformed Qissa Khwani from a simple marketplace into a living, breathing celebration of the storytelling tradition.
In an effort to keep this tradition alive, CAP recreated the essence of Qissa Khwani Bazaar in a contemporary setting where senior citizens could share their stories through a series of storytelling sessions. The initiative was a resounding success in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad with significant audience attendance.
